Joe Berry is an emeritus staff member. His work has focused on understanding mechanisms and model development of processes involved in land surface modeling. He is co-author of the photosynthesis models that are used in most Earth System models, and together with his colleague Jen Johnson he has developed new versions of these models that include the new remote sensing observation, solar induced fluorescence. He participated in developing the first land surface model (in the 1990’s) to include interactive plant physiology.
Research Interests
My overarching interest is in Earth's Biosphere, and in the photosynthetic process that powers it.
