African American History Program of The National Academies
African Americans have made significant contributions to the physical sciences, life sciences, and social sciences. Many of these scientists, engineers, medical practitioners, and researchers had to overcome awesome obstacles. New knowledge, born from their brilliance and perseverance, has benefited humankind. For over 20 years, The National Academies has recognized these achievements through the African American History Program (AAHP). In addition to an online database of African American scientists, the program develops special events, lectures, and concerts that celebrate contributions to our society by African Americans.
