Research Statement

Leonhard Schilbach holds a medical degree from the University of Dresden and has received his doctoral degree from the University of Cologne in 2008. From 2007 until 2015 he worked as a physician and research fellow at Department of Psychiatry at the University Hospital of Cologne. In 2010 he became group leader of an interdisciplinary group funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and in 2014 consultant psychiatrist. In 2015 he was awarded an Independent Max Planck Research Group and subsequently joined the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, where he currently works as a consultant psychiatrist and head of the Clinic for Disorders of Social Interaction and as leader of the Independent Max Planck Research Group for Social Neuroscience. His research aims at developing innovative and truly interactive experimental paradigms within social neuroscience, which allow for the investigation of the neural mechanisms of real-time social interaction in psychiatric (and other) disorders.
