Biosketch
Andrew J. Cherlin is Benjamin H. Griswold III Professor of Public Policy in the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. His most recent books are Labor’s Love Lost: The Rise and Fall of the Working-Class Family in America (2014); and The Marriage-Go-Round: The State of Marriage and the Family in America Today (2009). He is a former Guggenheim Foundation Fellow and a past-president of the Population Association of America. In addition to the National Academy of Sciences, he is a member of the American Academy of Political and Social Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2009 he received the Irene B. Taeuber Award from the Population Association of America in Recognition of Outstanding Accomplishments in Demographic Research.
Research Interests
I continue to study trends in family life in the U.S. and around the world. In addition, I am studying the economic and social situation of the American working class, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
