Research Interests

My research has centered on experimental high-energy and nuclear physics, with related interests in detector and accelerator development. In recent years, I have carried out research in the area of high-energy, heavy-ion physics. In particular, my experimental program has focused on the new states of matter, involving "high strangeness" which are made possible by the high energy heavy ion reactions which produce large numbers of the so-called strange particles. In addition, I have worked on the use of lasers for the acceleration of electrons. This work succeeded in the first successful demonstration of the technique of "inverse free electron laser acceleration" (published in Physical Review Letters).
