Peter Schuster is Professor emeritus of Theoretical Chemistry at Vienna University. Dr. Schuster is a theoretical chemist known for his work on molecular evolution in particular for the development of the theory of molecular quasi-species (together with Manfred Eigen) and neutral networks, which are both important in virology.  Dr. Schuster was born in Vienna, Austria and got his PhD in chemistry and physics 1967 from Vienna University. There he was full Professor of Theoretical Chemistry from 1973 until his retirement in 2009. He was President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2016 - 2019.

Research Interests

Dr. Schuster's  research focuses on model building for in vitro evolution of molecules and on molecular evolution of viruses, in particular on epidemics and outbreak of disease.
