Biosketch

Uta Frith, DBE, FBA, AcMedSci, FRS, is Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Development at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London. She is best known for her research on autism and dyslexia, which has resulted in new insights. She has developed and tested major theories to explain the core impairments in these conditions, by rigorously exploring the links between brain, mind and behaviour. Uta has received numerous honours and awards and was made a Honorary Dame of the British Empire in 2012. Uta has a special interest in science communication and public engagement. and has made a number of TV documentaries. She was chair of the Royal Society’s Diversity Committee from 2015-2018. She has raised awareness of the value of diversity in making group decisions, and has produced guidelines and visual materials to explain and combat unconscious bias in science, freely available on the Royal Society’s website.

Research Interests

With her husband Chris Frith Uta is currently busy writing a joint book on “What makes us social” for MIT Press. With their son Alex Frith as author, and Dan Locke as artist, they have produced a graphic non-fiction book to explain social neuroscience to a younger generation. This book is due to appear in 2021.
