Biosketch
Professor Jean Tirole is chairman of the Foundation J.J. Laffont-Toulouse School of Economics and founder of the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse. Previously, he was Professor of Economics at MIT, and he has served as President of the Econometric Society and President of the European Economic Association.
In 2014, Professor Tirole received The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for his analysis of market power and regulation. He is also a recipient of the European Economic Association’s Yrjö Jahnsson Award; the National Center for Scientific Research’s Gold Medal; the inaugural BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics, Finance and Management; the CME-MSRI award; the Claude Levi-Strauss Prize; the Nemmers Prize and the Stephen A. Ross Prize in Financial Economics. Professor Tirole holds honorary doctorate degrees from Université Libre de Bruxelles, London Business School, University of Montreal (HEC), University of Mannheim, Athens University of Economics and Business, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Hitotsubashi University, Université de Lausanne, University Luiss, Rome, European University Institute and Imperial College London.
Research Interests
Professor Tirole’s research covers industrial organization, regulation, finance, macroeconomics and psychology and economics.
