Research Interests

An ongoing project in my group is the elucidation, by means of high precision thermodynamic and mechanical resonance techniques, of the nature of superfluid onset in atomically thin 4He and 3He-4He mixture films adsorbed on a variety of surfaces in the limit of T=0. Another effort of my group is the direct measurement of forces induced by order parameter fluctuation near the superfluid, tricritical, and liquid vapor-critical points. These forces, analogous to the Casimir force induced by the fluctuation of the electromagnetic field, were predicted by Pierre de Gennes and Michael E. Fisher in 1978.
