Biosketch
Emilio Moran is John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor at Michigan State U since 2013 and serves on the National Science Board (2016-2022). He was elected to NAS in 2010. He was previously Distinguished Professor and Rudy Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University.
Research Interests
His work in environmental social science spans the fields of anthropology, geography and environmental sciences. His focus for several decades has been on land use and land cover change, tropical ecosystems, agroecology and migration. His work has been mainly focused in the Brazilian Amazon and in the past ten years focused not he social and environmental impacts of hydropower development in the Amazon and elsewhere. His work has been supported by NSF, NIH, NOAA, and NASA for the past three decades. He is the author of 11 books, 16 edited volumes and more than 230 journal articles.
