Biosketch
My academic career has spanned graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania (1970-75), untenured faculty position at Harvard University (1974-83), faculty at the University of New Mexico (1983-97), and professor at Washington University in Saint Louis (1997-2019), all in departments of Anthropology. I am currently emeritus at the last.
Research Interests
I have been primarily concerned with the paleobiology of late archaic humans and early modern humans, primarily from the Late Pleistocene, across Eurasia. This research has involved functional morphology, paleopathology, mortuary taphonomy, all with an emphasis on providing a baseline for insights into the biology and behavior of these past human populations.
