My research interests include cognition and language use in cultural contexts, cultural identity and attribution, cultural ecology, maritime anthropology, navigation, ethnoastronomy and calendrics, Pidgin and Creole languages, medieval European seafaring, modern Europe, and the ethnology and linguistics of Island Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
