Research Interests
Dr. Dervan pioneered an understanding of the chemical principles for the recognition of the genetic material, DNA. He has created small synthetic molecules comparable in affinity and specificity to Nature's proteins for binding predetermined DNA sequences. This fundamental research may allow the regulation of gene expression in cells and could have important implications for human medicine
