Research Interests
My research had focused on understanding how proteins can recognize specific sites on double-stranded DNA and how the bound proteins can regulate gene expression. However, impelled by deeper questions about the meaning and limits of human knowledge, I resigned my academic appointments (at MIT and HHMI) to work on “theories of thought.” Most recently, I have been a Visiting Professor at Caltech, teaching a course on “The World in 2050,” and — as described on my web site carlpabo.com — I’m finishing a book that offers new ways of thinking, new ways of addressing our global problems, and new hope for the human future.
