Research Interests

Dr. Mbacké’s research interests focus on reproductive health, maternal and child health and population and development. Since joining the Center for Research on Applied Economics and Finance (CREFAT) as a senior fellow in 2015, he has helped shape a regional research agenda on the effects of demographic change on economic growth using the National Transfer Accounts (NTA) approach. The NTA studies how population growth and changing age structures influence economic growth, gender and generational equity, public finances, and other important features of the macro-economy. In partnership with UNFPA, the center works on the implementation of the African Union roadmap for harnessing the demographic dividend in the French-speaking countries of western and central Africa. CREFAT provides training and technical assistance in the development of NTA country profiles and data collection and analysis to guide country programming.
