Research Interests
For most of my career, my research has been directed toward understanding the self-organizing, nano-machinery of cells, collectively known as the cytoskeleton. The cytoskeleton is crucial for understanding basic cell functions such how cells divide, how they move and how they are structured internally. Over the years, my lab group has approached these problems through biochemical, biophysical and molecular cell biological approaches. In the last few years, after my move to the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, I have formed a new group focused on visualizing microbial communities through metagenomics and combinatorial spectral imaging.
