Research Interests
My main research interest is the application of chemical principles to the understanding of enzyme catalysis. We have been active in applying isotope effects theory toward kinetic analyses of enzymes. Current studies are focused in three areas: the contribution of quantum effects to nuclear transfer processes in proteins; the characterization of a new class of redox cofactors found in the polypeptide chain of eukaryotic proteins (quinoproteins); and the study of oxygen activation in metallo-enzymes.
