Research Statement

My major research pursuit is to obtain a more complete census of the energy-producing galaxies and supermassive black holes in the universe. A serious impediment is that many luminous galaxies and black holes are hidden by dust from optical view; fortunately, these highly obscured sources can now be found at X-ray, submillimeter, and radio wavelengths. Once the extragalactic background light---the accumulation of emission from all extragalactic sources along the line-of-sight---is accounted for, the census will be complete, and the properties of the sources involved can be determined.
