Research Statement
Human-caused environmental changes, such as nitrogen deposition and global warming, disturb the ecology of natural populations, communities, and ecosystems. By altering the ?ecological theater,? humans also likely alter the ?evolutionary play.? My research uses manipulative field and greenhouse experiments to investigate how humans influence the ecology and evolution of plants and microorganisms. Rapid evolution and adaptation in the face of global change may facilitate species persistence in novel human-dominated environments but also may cause additional ecological impacts.
