Research Statement

My current research investigates when and where knowledge about microbial diversity helps to predict the response of ecosystems to global change. Towards these ends, my research uses a variety of taxa (including fungi, bacteria, and viruses), ecosystems, and methodological approaches to address three interrelated themes: the distribution of microbial diversity, the mechanisms that maintain this diversity, and the consequences of microbial diversity for ecosystem functioning.
