Research Statement
My primary research interest is to explore the role of neural activity in the normal development of the nervous system. In the developing visual system, even before there is any sensory experience, immature retinal neurons spontaneously generate propagating waves of correlated activity. My current research focuses on understanding the neural circuitry that underlies "retinal waves" and the role this highly patterned activity plays in the development of the visual system.
