Research Statement

Matthias Hein got his diploma in physics from the University of T�bingen in 2002 and his PhD in computer science from the University of Darmstadt in 2005. Between 2002 and 2007 he was member of the Empirical Inference group of Bernhard Sch_lkopf at the MPI for Biological Cybernetics (now MPI for Intelligent Systems) before he joined Saarland University as an assistant professor in 2007. Since 2014 he is full professor for mathematics and computer science at Saarland University. His research interests are in machine learning, statistics and optimization and the application of machine learning to problems in bioinformatics, computer vision and other fields in computer science and the natural sciences.
