Research Interests
Dr. Dominique Soldati-Favre’s research explores the complex biology of apicomplexan parasites, such as Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium species, focusing on the molecular mechanisms behind gliding motility and host cell invasion, essential for infection. Recently, her team used expansion microscopy to dissect the apical complex's substructures, particularly the conoid, providing new insights into the control of motility. Her work also examines the unique metabolic demands and adaptability of Apicomplexa, including how these parasites synthesize and salvage critical nutrients like lipids, vitamins, and cofactors, to uncover their resilience and potential therapeutic vulnerabilities.
