Biosketch
Dr. José M.C. Ribeiro, M.D., Ph.D is a Senior Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He earned his M.D. degree from the Rio de Janeiro State University and a Ph.D. degree in Biophysics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He was a visiting fellow in the department of Tropical Public Health of the Harvard School of Public Health where he became an Associate Professor, then moving to the University of Arizona as a Full Professor in the Department of Entomology, then moving in 1996 to NIAID. He served as chair of the Molecular Entomology program of the Tropical Diseases Program of the World Health Organization, and as a steering committee member of the FieldMal and Biological Control of Vectors programs of the TDR/WHO. Awards include the Bailey -Ashford and Hoogstral medals of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, an NIH Merit Award, and a Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Chair to the Department of Immunology, São Paulo State University, Brazil.
Research Interests
Role of saliva in blood feeding by arthropods, transcriptome analysis, bioinformatics.
