Research Interests
My interest and expertise are in the field of theoretical quantum optics, in particular the description of interaction of light with matter, and various aspects of quantum noise. During the last ten years the focus of my work has been on the interface between quantum optics and quantum information, and condensed matter physics with cold atoms. Examples are proposals for quantum computing with cold trapped ions, with cavity quantum electrodynamics, and cold atoms and molecules in optical lattices, the quantum repeater for quantum communication with atomic ensembles, and atomic physics - solid state interfaces and hybrid systems. Furthermore, we proposed the engineering of Hubbard models with quantum degenerate gases of atoms in optical lattices as a quantum simulator for strongly interacting many body systems and exotic quantum phases, and we have recently extended these ideas to cold molecules.
