Roberta L. Rudnick

Roberta L. Rudnick is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Earth Science at UC Santa Barbara. A first-generation college student, she received her B.S. at Portland State University, her M.S. at Sul Ross State University and her PhD at the Australian National University. After holding research positions in Germany and Australia, she returned to the U.S. and served on the faculty at Harvard University and the University of Maryland prior to moving to Santa Barbara. Dr. Rudnick has served on the National Academies committee on Grand Research Questions in Earth Science and Chaired the Committee on Extraterrestrial Sample Analysis Facilities. She has been a councilor for the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA), served on the Board of Directors of the Geochemical Society, as well as on its executive committee, served for ten years as an Editor-in-Chief of Chemical Geology. She received the N.L. Bowen Award and the Hess Medal from the American Geophysical Union, and the Dana Medal from the MSA. She is a fellow in numerous professional societies, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
