Biosketch

Uros Seljak is a theoretical astrophysicist known for his work in cosmology. He is particularly recognized for his research on cosmic microwave background, galaxy clustering and weak gravitational lensing, and the implications of these observations for the large scale structure of the universe, the origins of the universe, and the composition of the universe. Born in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, he graduated with a degree in physics from Ljubljana University, Slovenia, in 1991, and obtained his physics PhD in 1995 from MIT. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, a faculty member at Princeton University, ICTP Trieste and Zürich University, before joining the faculty at UC Berkeley and LBNL in 2008.

Research Interests

Uros Seljak's research interests cover theoretical and numerical cosmology and astrophysics, as well as development of data analysis techniques across a wide range of applications in astronomy and physics. He is interested in analytical and numerical approaches to the evolution of structure that started from tiny seeds in the early universe and evolved into the galaxies we see today. He has been developing data analysis methods in cosmology, extracting information about our universe from galaxy positions, cosmic microwave background, and weak lensing distortions of galaxy images. His research has a strong interdisciplinary component in developing statistical and data analysis methods for wider applications.
