Biosketch
László Lovász was born in 1948 in Budapest, Hungary, and became a US citizen in 2001. He obtained his doctoral degree in mathematics from the Eötvös Loránd University in 1971, and his Doctor of Mathematical Sciences degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1977. He was a faculty member at the University of Szeged (Hungary), Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and Yale University, and a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research in Redmond, WA. He is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1979, and several other Academies. He served as President of the International Mathematical Union between 2007 and 2010, and as President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between 2014 and 2020. Currently he is a Senior Researcher at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Budapest. His awards include the Wolf Prize (1999) and the Kyoto prize (2010). He wrote 5 research monographs and 4 textbooks, and over 250 research papers.
Research Interests
Currently László Lovász is working on graph limit theory and its extensions to dynamics of networks (including network models for epidemics) and to graphs of medium density. This involves extending finite graph theory to a measure-theoretical setting.
