NAS President to Serve on U.S. S&T Task Force

NAS President Marcia McNutt is one of more than 60 leaders in science, industry, education, philanthropy, and public policy appointed to a new bipartisan task force for developing a Vision for American Science and Technology — a road map to ensure U.S. global leadership in S&T. Also serving on the task force are National Academy of Engineering President John Anderson and National Academy of Medicine President Victor Dzau.

“The American science and technology enterprise has helped solve some of mankind’s greatest challenges, but the enterprise’s strength rests on our willingness to act,” said McNutt. “Our ability to out-innovate our competitors is dependent upon a better-coordinated, well-informed, and collaborative research and development environment. Together, this task force will identify pathways to establish an adaptive enterprise that will create jobs and opportunities, improve national security, and meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

The new task force, an initiative of the Science and Technology Action Committee, is working to identify opportunities and challenges facing the research enterprise; assess the steps needed to ensure the enterprise can meet incoming challenges in an increasingly competitive world; and lay out actions that will best position the United States for future prosperity.
