Research Statement
Michael W. Deem is interested in the statistical mechanics of biological and materials systems. Non-gene-chip methods for mRNA expression level analysis are of interest. Evolution, especially hierarchical methods for protein molecular evolution, is a particular interest, as are intelligent methods for design and re-design of libraries for combinatorial chemistry experiments. Nucleation mechanisms of zeolites, and how structure-directing agents influence them, are of interest. A variety of field-theoretic approaches to transport-limited reactions are final interests.
