Friday, April 24

Presentation Ceremony — Members and international members elected in 2025 were introduced to their colleagues in the Academy and signed the “Registry of Membership.”
Saturday, April 25

President’s Address — Marcia McNutt delivered her annual address to NAS members and guests.
Symposium — Ocean health is increasingly shaped by the interaction of multiple, rapidly intensifying stressors, including climate-driven warming, acidification, deoxygenation, nutrient enrichment, and expanding industrial activities such as deep-sea mining. This symposium brings together experts in ocean acidification, deoxygenation, harmful algal blooms, coral reef ecosystems, and deep-sea systems to examine these challenges as a coupled, interacting system. Short, synthesis-focused presentations and moderated discussion will explore emerging thresholds, nonlinear ecosystem responses, contrasting time scales of impact and recovery, and key scientific uncertainties. By emphasizing cross-disciplinary linkages rather than isolated processes, the session aims to identify priorities for research and monitoring needed to assess risks to ocean health in a rapidly changing planet.

Research Briefings — Six members elected in 2025, representing each of the Academy’s discipline-based Classes, will talk about their research and answer questions from the audience.
Sunday, April 27

Awards Ceremony — Recipients of the 2026 NAS Awards will be honored for their outstanding contributions to science.
